Turbulent Mixing in Clusters of Galaxies
نویسنده
چکیده
We present a spherically-symmetric, steady-state model of galaxy clusters in which radiative cooling from the hot gas is balanced by heat transport through turbulent mixing. We assume that the gas is in hydrostatic equilibrium, and describe the turbulent heat diffusion by means of a mixing length prescription with a dimensionless parameter αmix. Models with αmix ∼ 0.01 − 0.03 yield reasonably good fits to the observed density and temperature profiles of cooling core clusters. Making the strong simplification that αmix is time-independent and that it is roughly the same in all clusters, the model reproduces remarkably well the observed scalings of X-ray luminosity, gas mass fraction and entropy with temperature. The break in the scaling relations at kT ∼ 1− 2 keV is explained by the break in the cooling function at around this temperature, and the entropy floor observed in galaxy groups is reproduced naturally. Turbulence and turbulent mixing in natural fluids
Turbulence and turbulent mixing in natural fluids begin with big bang turbulence powered by spinning combustible combinations of Planck particles and Planck antiparticles. Particle prograde accretions on a spinning pair release 42% of the particle rest mass energy to produce more fuel for turbulent combustion. Negative viscous stresses and negative turbulence stresses work against gravity, extr...
متن کاملConduction and Turbulent Mixing in Galaxy Clusters
We discuss hydrostatic models of galaxy clusters in which heat diffusion balances radiative cooling. We consider two different sources of diffusion, thermal conduction and turbulent mixing, parameterized by dimensionless coefficients, f and αmix, respectively. Models with thermal conduction give reasonably good fits to the density and temperature profiles of several cooling flow clusters, but s...
متن کاملRegulation of Thermal Conductivity in Hot Galaxy Clusters by Mhd Turbulence
The role of thermal conduction in regulating the thermal behavior of cooling flows in galaxy clusters is reexamined. Recent investigations have shown that the anisotropic Coulomb heat flux caused by a magnetic field in a dilute plasma drives a dynamical instability. A long standing problem of cooling flow theory has been to understand how thermal conduction can offset radiative core losses with...

Allowing the energy of a gravitational field to serve partially as its own source allows gravitating bodies to exhibit stronger fields, as if they were more massive. Depending on degree of compaction of the body, the field could be one to five times larger than the Newtonian field. This is a comfortable range of increase in field strength and may prove to be of convenience in the study of vel...
